Everything You Need to Know About the Camino de Santiago Crossroads Retreats
Mindful Walking Retreats in Southwest France
Welcome to the FAQ page for my Camino de Santiago Crossroads Retreats, where you’ll find answers to common questions about what to expect during this transformative experience. If you’re navigating a major life change and seeking clarity on your next chapter, these retreats offer a blend of mindfulness, walking a section of the Camino de Santiago, and connection with nature. Here, I answer all the burning questions you didn’t even know you had. This page is your go-to guide for all things retreat-related—from the serious (yes, you definitely need travel insurance) to the smart (no, you don’t have to get up at sunrise unless you really want to). Let’s clear things up so you can focus on what really matters: thriving during this life transition and transforming your life.

Where is the retreat venue?
The retreat is hosted near Nogaro, in Occitanie, in the southwest of France, along peaceful sections of the Camino de Santiago.
When can I come on a retreat?
These Camino walking retreats start on the first and third Saturday of the month from March to November
Is airfare included in the retreat package?
No, airfare is not included in the retreat price. Travel to the retreat venue is self-organised.
Who are these retreats for?
Our retreats are perfect for people navigating life transitions such as career changes, burnout, divorce, bereavement, empty nest syndrome, or simply wanting to relax and reconnect with nature.
Do I need to pay the full price when I reserve my spot?
No, initially only a 25% deposit for this retreat is required upon registration. The remaining amount is collected 30 days prior to the retreat start date.
How can I secure my booking for the retreat?
Your spot is secure ONLY when you’ve paid the deposit. Early booking is recommended as places are limited.
Do you have payment plans?
Yes, please e-mail me at MargarethaMontagu@gmail.com for details.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes, travel insurance is mandatory in case of unexpected cancellations (either by you or by me) and any other incidents that can happen when travelling.
Do I have to do everything listed on the agenda?
No, you can tailor the experience to your needs. All activities are optional. Only participate in the activities that suit you.
I don’t speak any French…?
No problem, the retreat is hosted in English as most guests have this language in common.
What is your Vaping/Smoking Policy?
Only allowed on the terrace outside the kitchen.
Is your retreat appropriate for those with mobility issues?
You will be staying in a building built hundreds of years before accessibility was a consideration, so unfortunately, the retreats we currently offer are not handicapped accessible (but I’m working on it!)
I have specialised dietary requirements. Can you accommodate my needs?
At the time of registration, please let me know if you have any allergies, preferences or intolerances. At the very least, I need to know two weeks before the retreat starts if you are vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, etc. I regretfully do not yet cater for vegans – but let’s talk about it if that is your preference. Customised dietary requirements may be subject to an additional fee.
What should I bring?
You’ll need comfortable walking shoes, lightweight clothing suitable for walking, a small backpack, a water bottle, sun protection, and layers for variable weather, etc. A full packing list will be provided once the final payment has been made.
Is there WiFi and cell service?
Yes, wifi is available in the common areas and in each room.
How fit do I need to be?
A moderate level of fitness is recommended. The idea is to walk at a gentle, mindful pace, focusing on the journey, not the destination. Most walks are 10-15 kilometres per day on relatively flat terrain. If you have health concerns, please contact me in advance.
Can I attend multiple retreats?
Yes, many of my guests return, sometimes year after year. Each retreat is unique, so you are welcome to attend more than once.
I’m camera-shy. Do I have to be photographed?
No, you do not have to be photographed. I can never remember to do it anyway.
Is this a religious pilgrimage?
While you’ll walk the Camino de Santiago, a world-famous pilgrimage, my retreats are not religion-focused. They are open to people of all beliefs and focus on personal growth, resilience, mindfulness, and connection with nature.
Can I drink alcohol?
I do not have an alcohol licence, so I cannot serve alcohol, but you are welcome to bring your own.
I’m travelling by myself, are most other people in groups or by themselves too?
Yes, most of my guests are solo travellers, but friends and couples are welcome too.
What is the minimum age to participate?
You must be at least 21 years of age.
What do I do if I arrive early or want to stay on after the retreat?
In the immediate vicinity, there are some gorgeous B&Bs, but only in exceptional circumstances could I provide lodging, meals or transportation before or after the retreats.
How many guests can you have on the retreat?
I host a maximum of 4 guests on this retreat to ensure each guest gets the attention they need.
I hope these FAQ and answers have given you a clearer idea of what to expect from my retreats and how they can benefit you. My goal is to provide a nurturing and empowering environment where you can gain the tools needed to move forward with confidence.
